The Kathinayoga™ takes place in natural surroundings- as far as possible; the Kalari floor is filled with river sand to a depth of at least 1.5 feet. This is to prevent injuries while being thrown and slammed on the ground. It is never undertaken on hard floors or indoors, the Kalari lamp is lit in the southwest corner. A Srichakra is drawn on the floor just in front of the sacred lamp.
